When I read the news these days, I find myself missing people like Marshall Rosenberg and John Lennon. I miss hearing about those inspiring souls who offered hope-filled visions of peace and reminded us of our shared humanity, bringing people together again.
As I read the news, I feel a deep sadness, and I can no longer stay silent. Where are all the true peacemakers now? On which channels are their voices being heard today? No matter which news site you turn to, good news seems harder to find. Some even lack thoughtful or intelligent reporting altogether, but that’s another matter, one for which only David R. Hawkins, M.D., Ph.D., seems to hold the answers. Can we return to a time when news channels highlighted peacemakers and shared wise solutions: stories that truly help make this world a better place for everyone? I know, it so often comes down to money. Good news doesn’t generate enough clicks; only negative emotions and hyped, shocking dramas seem to draw the numbers, and with them the profits. Here is my question, the real issue to think about: Is that really the world you want your children to live in? Think for a minute, seriously pause, take a deep breath, and ask your heart: is that the consciousness, the state of mind, and the society in which you want your sons and daughters to grow up? Are you sure you really want your children to live in a society that is becoming more and more focused on fighting, wars, dramas, lies, and insecurities in every area of their daily lives? No? Good. Because there really is a solution, a way to turn things around. Yes, there is another world we could create together: Imagine a peaceful world, where leaders gather with open hearts and sincere intentions, sitting together not as rivals but as fellow human beings, searching for fair agreements that honor the dignity and well-being of all. This world truly is big enough for every one of us, and it really is possible to share its resources with all people, everywhere, across this beautiful planet Earth. Yes, it is possible. Simply take a few minutes, close your eyes, and truly imagine this. Create that picture of a more peaceful world in your mind. How does it feel? Because we still have the power to change history. Why not? If we want to, we can. Where there is a real and honest will, there is always a way. And if people claim there is no way, it usually means they are settling for excuses instead of possibilities. A good start would be for the major news channels to share, more often, peaceful and benevolent solutions to the political issues and conflicts happening in different parts of the world. Just imagine how much that alone could transform society. Now picture a channel dedicated entirely to solutions, showing peacemaker people, sharing practical tutorials on how to create peace, nurture peace, and make it last across communities, nations, and continents. Seriously, why not? Those would be the kind of influencers we truly need today, reaching hearts and minds all around the world. It does not help when two hundred news channels report on the same terrible issues around the clock. Constant repetition does not bring solutions, nor does it stop the suffering. What this world truly needs are four hundred channels filled with the voices of peacemakers - teaching us how to end conflicts, how to create peace in troubled places, how to share resources fairly, and how to build safe cities with new homes for the homeless. Call me naïve, but I still love to imagine all people living life in peace, and I continue to believe that this truly is possible for our planet Earth. Yes, I like to ask, Why not? Why can’t they share? Why can’t they find peaceful agreements? Why can’t they respect one another? My question truly is: Why not? Is it because of ego? Perhaps. I know that some people spend money on seminars to reach enlightenment and learn how to set the ego aside. But maybe there is a simpler way. One can save the money, offering time in volunteer work instead, helping those in need. That, in itself, is the most direct path to selflessness. And selflessness, in truth, is the necessary key to a more peaceful world. Because in selflessness, without an ego, there is nothing left to fight about — only a heart filled with peace.
